Hundreds of primary school children from the North East region enjoyed a Golfway Festival at Temple Park Leisure Centre, Tyneside.
The first event of its kind in the new academic year, the inclusive golf festival saw over 30 schools attend, with children of all abilities able to partake, have fun and be physically active. The usability and safe nature of the Golfway Play equipment enabled numerous disabled young people to play golf for the first time.
Ian Harvey, Golf Foundation Regional Development Officer said: "The Golfway Skills Festival is a fantastic opportunity to introduce children from all across Tyne and Wear to golf. Uptake from local schools has been unbelievable, we have around 300 pupils with special educational needs experiencing golf in a fun and inclusive way.
"We were also able to show teachers what golf delivery in schools can look like and the benefits it can bring to pupils, using our programmes and Golfway equipment.
"Golf Foundation would like to thank the Together Fund, Cerebral Palsy Sport and South Tyneside School Sports Network for their support and funding to make this event possible."
Additionally, year-12 students from St Joseph’s Catholic Academy were able to assist the young attendees and deliver coaching as part of their physical education qualification.
